Dec. 10, 2012

WASHINGTON - Senior linebacker Robert McCabe (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep) was named to The Sports Network FCS All-America team, when honors were announced on Monday afternoon. McCabe, who leads the FCS in tackles, broke the Hoyas all-time tackles record this season and has posted the top two single-season totals in program history. McCabe was named to the AFCA All-America team early last week.

McCabe, the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, shattered his own single-season tackles record, while leading Division I FCS with 159 (14.45 tackles/game). McCabe also broke the program record with 407 career tackles, placing him fifth in Patriot League history.

He also led the Patriot League with 14.5 tackles for loss and was among the league leaders with 5.5 sacks, placing himself as a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the Top Defensive Player in the nation. The three-time PL Defensive Player of the Week helped lead a Hoyas defense that was second in the league in scoring defense (23.7 pts/gm), rushing defense (144.6 yds/gm), and passing defense (215.7) and third in total defense (360.4).

He was one of two Patriot League student-athletes to earn First Team All-America honors, joining Fordham's placekicker Patrick Murray.
