WASHINGTON - Senior linebacker Robert McCabe (Newtown Square, Pa./Malvern Prep) has been named to the Associated Press (AP) All-America First Team when honors were announced on Thursday morning. McCabe, the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, has already been named to the AFCA and The Sports Network All-America teams following a season where he led Division I FCS in tackles.
McCabe shattered his own single-season tackles record, while leading Division I FCS with 159 tackles (14.45 tackles/game) during his senior season. A four-year starter, McCabe also broke the program record with 407 career tackles, placing him fifth in Patriot League history and finished his career with 18 consecutive double-digit tackle games.
He also led the Patriot League with 14.5 tackles for loss and finished among the league leaders with 5.5 sacks, placing himself as a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the Top Defensive Player in the nation. The three-time PL Defensive Player of the Week helped lead a Hoyas defense that was second in the league in scoring defense (23.7 pts./game), rushing defense (144.6 yds./game), and passing defense (215.7) and third in total defense (360.4).
McCabe is the 21st All-America selection in Georgetown football history and the eighth First Team All-America selection in program history.
