CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. - Junior Greg Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) fired a tournament-best five-under par 67 on Monday morning at the BIG EAST Championships, as the Georgetown University men's golf team is currently sixth of nine programs with a team score of 618 through 36 holes at Callawassie Island Golf Club.
Podufal, who shot a 10-over par 82 on the first day, came back with the best round of any of the field's 45 competitors. Podufal moved into eighth place overall at five-over par 149, as The Hoyas' shot a 303 on the second day.
Senior Ed McCrossen (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) is one stroke in front of Podufal, after shooting a two-over par 74 for the second consecutive day. McCrossen is seventh overall at four-over par 148.
Sophomore Matthew Moosavian (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) fired an eight-over par 80 to put him at 158 and a tie for 28th after the second day. Senior Charlie vonArentschildt (Scottsdale, Ariz./Deerfield Academy) shot a 10-over par 82 to score a 163 through two rounds, good for a tie at 35th place , while freshman Austin Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) shot his second consecutive round of 82 to tie for 37th place.
St. John's, who has shot a team score of 585 through two rounds, leads the competition by 10 strokes over second place Marquette. Ryan McCormick of St. John's leads the field at 142, while teammate Ben Ludlam sits three strokes behind in second place.
