ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Georgetown University men's golf team concluded its first weekend of competition, finishing sixth out of 10 teams during the team-day Navy Fall Classic at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md. The Hoyas shot a +25, 593, after shooting a combined 303 on Sunday afternoon.
Senior captain Charlie vonArentschildt (Scottsdale, Ariz./Deerfield Academy) shot a team-leading +1, 72 on Sunday to finish tied for 16th with a 147 over two days. Junior Greg Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) shot +2, 74 each day to finish tied for 18th with a combined 148.
Towson walked away with the team title in the 20th Navy Fall Classic, as defending champion North Dakota State finished fourth.
On Saturday, the Hoyas, led by freshman Andrew Rudy's one-under 70 round, placed second with a team score of 290, behind only Towson. Rudy's day one score had him sixth overall going into the final round. Rudy finished the tournament tied with teammate Raleigh Chapin (Doylestown, Pa./New Hope Solebury) in 25th place, shooting a combined 150. Junior Brian Tohir (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) rounded out the Hoyas lineup, finishing tied for 38th, shooting 153 over two rounds.
The Hoyas return to action on Monday, September 23 when they take part in The Fightin' Irish Gridiron Classic at The Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
