Georgetown Finishes 11th at Golfweek Program Challenge

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's golf program completed its season opening tournament at the Golfweek Program Challenge held at True Blue Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Hoyas totaled a +19, 883, to finish 11th out of 12 teams. GU shot a combined 295 in the final round earlier today.
The Golfweek Program Challenge is a unique event, bringing together the men's and women's teams from both programs to compete for a tournament championship in their independent 54-hole events. To crown a 2012 champion the men's and women's final scores were combined. Campbell was honored as the 2012 champion as its women's program won the event by 40 strokes and Cambell's men's program placed eighth, 16 strokes off the lead.
Central Arkansas was on top of the men's Challenge finishing with a three round total of 862, 2-under par. Jacksonville State and Troy rounded out the top three.
Three Hoyas closed the Challenge in the top 35. Both Curtis Loop (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Brian Tohir (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) carded a three round total of 221, which was good for a tie at 29th overall in the Challenge. Loop carded two birdies on the final day and was par on 13 holes for a total of 73. Tohir meanwhile birdied three holes and was par on 12 to card Georgetown's best third round score of 72. Justin Edwards (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake Village) shot a final round 75 and tied for 34th overall. Meanwhile Gregory Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) ended in a tie for 40th with a three round score of 224 and Charlie vonArentschildt (Scottsdale, Ariz./Deerfield Academy) placed 51st with a 231.
Georgetown's next competition will be at the Cardinal Intercollegiate on September 23, 2012. The tournament will be hosted by Louisville and runs for three days, ending on Tuesday, September 25.
