WASHINGTON - Sophomore Greg Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) led the Hoyas to a ninth place finish at the Cobra PUMA Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla. at Miromar Lakes Golf Course. Georgetown's team finished with a combined 882 (296-292-294) just two strokes off eighth place William and Mary.
Winning the event by 19 strokes was Florida Gulf Coast (837). Penn State claimed second (856), Bethune Cookman third (857) and Wofford fourth (861). Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville and Marshall rounded out the top seven respectively.
Podufal carried the Hoyas in the Invitational shooting Georgetown's top score in the first two rounds and one off the best in round three (72-70-73). He closed the tournament in 15th place, his highest finish of the fall. Podufal's three round total of 215 tied his lowest 54-hole total as a Hoya, which he shot twice last season.
Sophomore Brian Tohir (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) saved his best round for the final 18, shooting a 72, which was the best score of the day for Georgetown. He tied for 57th overall (76-79-72-227). Junior Charlie vonArentschildt (Scottsdale, Ariz./Deerfield Academy) tied for 63rd (76-73-80-229).
The next competition for the Hoyas will be in Morgantown, N.C. at the Donald Ross Invitational held at The Mimosa Hills Golf Club. The Invitational will be run from Monday, October 15 till Tuesday, October 16.
