WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's golf team finished the opening day of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in 14th place after the first 18 holes of action on Sunday. The Hoyas shot a 9-over par 293 at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.
A trio of Hoyas shot a 73 in the opening round to tie for 41st place. Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School), Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Edgewood/Cardinal Gibbons [Fla.]) and Patrick DiPasquale (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) all carded a 2-over par 73 while Eduardo Blochtein (Delray Beach, Fla./Spanish River) was right behind them with a 3-over par 74 to tie for 53rd place. Jack Musgrave (Chesterton, Ind./Andrean) posted a 77 to tie for 76th to round out the Blue & Gray's competition.
Campbell leads the 18-team field with a 14-under par 270, followed by host Old Dominion (279), Ball State (280), Delaware (282), Akron and North Dakota State (293) with under par scores. Towson shot an even 284, followed by George Mason (286), Marshall (288), Saint Joseph's (288), Drake (288), Longwood (289), Hartford (291) and Georgetown (293). Omaha (294), St. Francis (Pa.) (295), Drexel (298) and Manhattan (305) round out the competition.
The ODU/OBX Intercollegiate continues on Monday with another 18 holes in the second round of the event. Georgetown begins the day on the 10th tee at 9:15 p.m. playing with Hartford and Omaha.
