Led by senior Tim Hager (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North), the Georgetown University men's golf team posted its best round of the fall and is tied for first place in the 15-team field at the NCAA East Regional Preview, being hosted by Columbia University at the Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, N.J. A frost delay pushed today's start back an hour, and the tough conditions prevented anyone from shooting under par. Only four strokes separate the top five teams after the first day. The Hoyas posted a first round score of 17-over par 301 and are tied for first place with Eastern Kentucky and St. John's. Penn is in fourth place at 19-over par 303, while Connecticut and Florida are tied for fifth place at 21-over par 305. Hager carded a 1-over par 72 and is tied for second place with Brian Hwang of Connecticut and Mu Hu of Florida. That trio is one stroke off the pace of Penn's Michael Blodgett, who leads the field of 81 golfers at even-par 71. Georgetown was aided to its first place tie by having three players among the top-20 overall and all five of its possible scorers finish among the top-30. Junior Vincenzo Salina (Vandoeuvres, Switzerland/Institut Florimont) shot a 4-over par 75 and is tied for 10th place, while sophomore Brandon Ellis (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) is one shot back, at 5-over par 76, and is tied for 20th place. Freshman Brian Dorfman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) and senior Garrett Logan (Henderson, Nev./Bishop Gorman) are tied for 30th place at 7-over par 78. Second round play on Saturday is expected to tee off at approximately 8:30 a.m. Team Scores (par 284) Individual Scores (par 71)
