WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's golf team will travel south to Lake Worth, Fla. on Thursday morning to participate in the three-day FAU Slomin Autism Championship at the par 71, 6,876 yard Fountains Country Club North Course. The tournament is hosted by Florida Atlantic University.
Following a Thursday practice round, the 20-team field will play 18 holes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Live hole-by-hole scoring will be available at www.GolfStat.com. The FAU Slomin Autism Championship will be Georgetown's first competition since a 12th place finish at the Desert Mountain Invitational in Scottsdale, Arizona on March 6 and 7.
The Hoyas lineup expect to be at full strength after freshman Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) and sophomore Austin Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) were unable to compete due to illness, forcing the squad to compete with just three golfers in Scottsdale. Senior Greg Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), a 2014 All-BIG EAST selection, was sidelined for the fall, suffering an injury following the Hoyas' first tournament at Navy.
"We are looking forward to the Florida Atlantic event this weekend," Head Coach Thomas Hunter said. "The field is very competitive and the golf course is terrific. The guys have been working hard for the past two weeks - we are excited to compete again."
