WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Men's Golf Coach Tommy Hunter announced the team's schedule for the 2012 fall season, which starts next weekend with the team playing in the Golfweek Challenge.
The season-opening Golfweek Challenge is a unique 12-team event bringing together both men's and women's teams from the schools to play at two different courses. Hosted by Golfweek Magazine, the men's tournament will be played at the True Blue Golf Course in Pawley's Island, S.C. The 54-hole tournament starts on Sunday, Sept. 9 and concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
"This year's fall schedule might be the most challenging schedule we have ever faced," Hunter said. "Having received an invitation to the Golfweek event sets in motion a national schedule that demands our best effort every time we compete. Our guys will have an opportunity to face numerous top-50 teams, which makes the season very exciting."
The Hoyas will be off for 12 days before returning to play on Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, hosted by Louisville. The 54-hole event will be held at the Cardinal Club in Louisville, Ky.
Georgetown then makes its annual appearance in an event hosted by Xavier University - this year called the Cobra Invitational - in Fort Myers, Fla. The Cobra Invitational will be played on Sunday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 1 at the Miramar Lakes Golf Club.
A new event for the Blue & Gray on the schedule this year is the Donald Ross Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State. The event - on Monday, Oct. 15 and Tuesday, Oct. 16 - will be played at the Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Morganton, N.C.
GU closes out the fall campaign with the 28th Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate. Played at Georgetown's home course, The Members Club at Four Streams, the 54-hole tournament will be held on Monday, Oct. 22 and Tuesday, Oct. 23.
