Fall Preview with Men's Golf Head Coach Tommy Hunter
Greetings from the "Hilltop" as we begin our 2013-14 season! Sure hope all of you had a great summer with many opportunities to play some good golf. This coming weekend we kick off the season at The U.S. Naval Academy Fall Golf Classic (Sept. 7-8). We are excited to get things underway after spending the last week qualifying for roster positions. The Naval Academy golf course is a challenge - very small greens and lots of elevation changes throughout. It is a golf course that requires a "good feel" type of game plan and requires precise shot-making.
Captain, Greg Podufal will lead the Hoyas this year. His outstanding play for the past two years, has enabled him to move into the elite group of players in the Mid-Atlantic Region of Division I golf. Senior Captain, Charlie vonArentschildt returns to the line-up after an injury plagued junior year - his experience will be vital to the team's success. Junior, Brian Tohir is another veteran who has seen plenty of competition during his freshman and sophomore years. Sophomore, Raleigh Chapin played in eight of the 10 tournaments last year as a freshman and understands what it takes to compete at this level. Freshman, Andrew Rudy has been very impressive during qualifying and is anxious to get his career as a Hoya started. This quintet will hope to get the Hoyas off and running for the new year. Rounding out the remaining roster spots are senior Captain, Eddie McCrossen who is a three year letterman, sophomore Matthew Moosavian, who had a tremendous spring last season, and freshman, Austin Rendell, a native of Chicago, who played extensively on the national level as a high-school standout.
Following the Naval Academy event, we move onto The Gridiron Classic at Notre Dame (Sept. 23-24), The Firestone Invitational hosted by Akron University (October 7-8), our own Georgetown Intercollegiate (Oct. 21-22) and finish up the fall season in Fort Myers, Florida at The Cobra Invitational hosted by Xavier/Florida Gulf Coast (Oct. 27-28). We sure hope you will follow our progress this fall and we wish you the very best with your game!
