WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's golf team plays in its second competition of the fall season when the Hoyas travel to Simpsonville, Ky. for the Cardinal Invitational. The two day event will be hosted at the par-72, 7.036-yard Cardinal Club Golf Course and run from Monday, September 24 through Tuesday, September 25.
The Cardinal Intercollegiate features 15 teams including Arkansas-Little Rock, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Francis Marion, Furman, Marshall, Morehead State, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, Western Kentucky and host Louisville.
The shotgun start on Monday will be at 8:30 a.m. Two rounds will be played Monday, with the final 18 held on Tuesday, September 25, starting at 8 a.m.
"We are looking forward to competing in Louisville's event this weekend. It is a quality field and a tremendous golf course," commented head men's golf coach Tommy Hunter. "We understand it will take three solid golf rounds to be competitive. We hope to eliminate a few of the mistakes we made at the Golfweek Program Challenge and play the kind of golf we are capable of playing."
Georgetown began its season two weeks ago at the Golfweek Program Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C. As a team the Hoyas finished 11th and three individual Hoyas placed in the top 35. Curtis Loop (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Brian Tohir (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) tied for 29th overall with each shooting a three round total of 221. In the second round Loop carded a Georgetown team low of 69. Tohir and Justin Edwards (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake Village) had all three of their rounds count in the tournament.
Heading to Louisville will be veterans Loop, Tohir, Edwards and Greg Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep). Joining them will be freshman Raleigh Chapin (Doylestown, Pa./New Hope Solebury), who will be making his first appearance in the Blue and Gray.
