Georgetown University Head Coach Kevin Warne has announced the addition of Michael Phipps as an assistant coach on the men's lacrosse staff. Phipps comes to the Hilltop after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Navy.

"We are thrilled to have Michael Phipps join our coaching staff here on the Hilltop," Warne said. "Michael is a hard worker who possesses a wealth of lacrosse knowledge and he has worked under some of the best coaches in the game. I am extremely excited to see him mold our offensive players and our system as we head into the upcoming year."

Navy's offense flourished under the tutelage of Phipps since his arrival in the 2015 season. The midshipmen averaged 15.21 points per game in 2017, a program-best since the 2007 season. Navy earned a share of the Patriot League regular season championships in both 2105 and 2016 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament in 2016.

Prior to his time in Annapolis, Phipps spent three seasons as an assistant coach at High Point. In addition to his offensive duties, Phipps also helped develop the Panthers goalies and guided Austin Geisler to finish the 2014 season ranked second nationally in saves per game (13.63) and fifth in save percentage (59.2). High Point won a share of the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship during his final season at HPU.

Phipps also spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Severn School and spent the 2008 season as the Director of Lacrosse Operations at his alma mater, the University of Maryland.

Phipps was a standout at Maryland, garnering Honorable Mention All-America honors as a senior in 2007 and was the recipient of the Van Trump Award honoring the team's best attackman. He amassed 95 points (48G,47A) over his career including a team-high 50 points as a senior. Phipps would go on to play professionally in Major League Lacrosse from 2008-10 with the Los Angeles Riptide and Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Phipps and his wife, Maggie, who serves as the Director of Operations for the Maryland women's lacrosse team, reside in Annapolis.
