QUEENS, N.Y. - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (2-12, 1-4 BIG EAST) concluded its 2016 season with an 8-5 loss to St. John's University (2-12, 1-4 BIG EAST) on Senior Day at DaSilva Memorial Field on campus at SJU.

Freshman Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) finished with three goals and one assist, while graduate student Joe Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) had two goals and one assist in his final career game. Bucaro and Bucci accounted for each Hoya point during a second half 4-0 run to bring the game within one goal, before the Red Storm scored the final two goals of the game.

Sophomore goalie Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) had 10 saves, while allowing six goals in the loss and sophomore Riley Mann (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) went 5-for-7 at the faceoff X with two groundballs.

The Red Storm rode the emotional high of its pre-game Senior Day festivities into the first quarter, taking a quick 3-0 lead, before the Hoyas could respond.

Junior midfielder Nick Carpenter (Oakton, Va./Paul VI) picked up a ground ball off a faceoff and quickly fed Bucaro, who scored to put Georgetown on the board for the first time at the 4:39 mark in the first quarter, making the score 3-1. It would be GU's last goal of the half.

SJU added two more goals to take a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. They added one more in the second to take a 6-1 lead into halftime.

The Blue & Gray made a run in the second half, beginning with Bucci's goal on the dish from Bucaro to end the Hoya drought with 12:39 remaining in the third. Bucaro wrapped around the cage and scored at the 5:30 mark in the third, before Bucci added his second goal of the game to bring the Hoyas within two goals, at 6-4 with 4:14 left in the quarter.

The Hoyas closed to within one, at 6-5, after Bucaro added an extra-man goal on Bucci's feed 15 seconds into the final quarter to extend the GU run to four goals.

St. John's had an answer as reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Eric DeJohn scored his second goal of the game, followed by Jason DeBenedictis's third, to take an 8-5 lead. The Hoyas could not muster any more offense to close out the season with an 8-5 loss.

NOTES: This will be the final game of the 2016 season for the Hoyas as they devote the remainder of the semester to supporting each other and finishing up their academic commitments.

Georgetown played Saturday's game as a way of remembering junior defenseman Ed Blatz Jr. (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) who passed away last week. The Hoyas wore shooting shirts with Blatz's name and No. 22 prior to the game and a black circular patch with his No. 22 on their game jerseys. The team also wore socks with his initials "EWB" and No. 22.
