WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior captain Brian Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) has been selected in the sixth round (48th overall) of the 2013 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Charlotte Hounds. Casey will be eligible to sign with Charlotte following GU's 2013 season.
Casey becomes the 23rd player in Georgetown history selected in the MLL Draft, as the Hoyas have had players selected in the last six drafts and 12 of the 13 drafts in the history of the league, with Gerry Reilly selected in 2012 and Barney Ehrmann and Dan Hostetler selected in 2011.
"Being selected in the Major League Lacrosse draft is an honor and I could not be more excited for the opportunity in the future," Casey said. "There is still a lot of lacrosse to be played at Georgetown this spring, but it's exciting to have a chance to play at the next level, especially with another Hoya alumni like Gerry Reilly."
Casey, who was named one of the team's tri-captains by Head Coach Kevin Warne last week, is preparing for his final season on the Hilltop with practice beginning on Monday afternoon. Casey led the Hoyas with 35 points on 20 goals and 15 assists during a breakout 2012 season that saw him move from midfield to attack in the season's sixth game against eventual National Champion Loyola (Md.).
Casey and the Hoyas open the 2013 when they host Lafayette College at Multi-Sport Field on Saturday, February 16, with the opening face-off scheduled for noon. The game will be one of seven home contests for the Blue & Gray at Multi-Sport Field in 2013.
