WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team was selected third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll, while graduate student defender Barney Ehrmann (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) and sophomore attack Travis Comeau (Red Deer, Alberta/Hill Academy) were selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team when the conference announced its preseason rankings and honors on Friday afternoon.
The Hoyas received 25 points in the poll, slotting behind Syracuse (36 points, 6 first place votes) and Notre Dame (31, 1). Georgetown finished 2010, the inaugural season of BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse, in second place with a 5-1 record against league opponents and 9-7 overall. GU was also selected third in the 2010 preseason poll
Rounding out the 2011 preseason poll is Villanova (22), St. John's (14), Rutgers (13) and Providence (6).
Ehrmann, who sat out the 2010 season due to injury, makes his second consecutive appearance on the All-BIG EAST Preseason team after being named the Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. The three-time All-ECAC selection, who is currently 11th in Georgetown history with 165 ground balls will anchor the Hoyas defense.
Comeau earns his first selection to the preseason team after making an impact for the Blue & Gray as a freshman. Comeau started seven of 13 games and tied for the team lead with 25 goals. He finished fourth in the conference averaging 1.92 goals per game last season and was a two-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, earning honors on March 23 and April 5.
The Georgetown men's lacrosse team opens its season on Sunday, February 20 when the travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to take on the Jacksonville University Dolphins at Noon. The Hoyas play its first four games on the road before hosting Syracuse at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m.
