Georgetown Heads West to Face No. 4/6 Denver in BIG EAST Action

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's lacrosse travels to face No. 4/6 Denver in BIG EAST action on Saturday afternoon. Opening faceoff against the Pioneers is set for 3 p.m. ET.

Georgetown (2-7, 0-1 BIG EAST) is coming off tough back-to-back 11-10 losses at then-No. 17/18 Loyola and at home against BIG EAST rival Marquette. Peter Conley (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) tallied four goals and four assists on the week to eclipse the 100 career point mark and was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for his efforts. He currently ranks 20th all-time on the career scoring list (107 points), tied for 17th on the career goals list (69) and tied for 21st on the all-time career assists list (38).

Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 4 Denver, 17-4
The Georgetown University men’s lacrosse team (1-9, 0-2 BIG EAST) could not keep pace with No. 4 Denver’s high-powered offense, as the Hoyas fell, 17-4, on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field in front of a CBS Sports Network audience.

Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) paces the Hoyas with 34 points (26G, 8A) on the season, leads the BIG EAST in goals per game with 2.89 a contest and ranks 10th in the NCAA in GPG. Conley is right on his trail with 32 points (19G, 13A), Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) ranks third with 18 points (14G, 4A) and Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) adds 14 points (10G, 4A).

Defensively, long stick midfielder Michael Mayer (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) leads the Hoyas in both ground balls and caused turnovers with 39 and 14, respectively. He tops the BIG EAST in caused turnovers per game with 1.56 and is in the top-25 nationally as well. Jarrett Jones (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes) has hauled in 23 ground balls, Conley has 20 and both Carraway and Charlie Ford (San Carlos, Calif./St. Ignatius) have each collected 16.

In goal, Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) has registered 104 saves on the season with a .528 save percentage. He currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division I on the career leaders list with 472 saves and fourth with 12.10 saves per game.

Saturday's game features a showdown between two of the top-three faceoff specialists in the BIG EAST. Denver's Trevor Baptiste leads the nation with a .723 winning percentage while GU's Peter Tagliaferri (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) is third in the league and 15th nationally at a .584 clip.

Denver (6-2) is coming off a 12-11 victory over Towson and begins BIG EAST play against the Hoyas. Connor Cannizzaro lead the Pioneers with 30 points (18G, 12A) while Ethan Walker adds 29 points (19G, 10A), Austin French has 16 points (8G, 8A) and Colton Jackson chips in 11 points (10G, 1A).

Baptiste leads the NCAA in faceoff winning percentage and the BIG EAST in ground balls with 9.13 a game.

In goal, Alex Ready has earned all eight of DU's decisions and has posted a 9.07 goals-against average to go with a .452 save percentage.

Following Saturday's game, Georgetown returns to action on April 8 on the road at Providence to continue BIG EAST play.
