WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team returns to the friendly confines of Cooper Field as it hosts BIG EAST rival Villanova on Saturday afternoon. With the opening faceoff set for 2:30 p.m., the game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with Ben Holden calling the play-by-play and Sheehan Stanwick Burch providing color commentary.
The Hoyas (2-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) are coming off a two-game BIG EAST road trek, capped by a 13-7 loss at Providence last Saturday. Austin McDonald (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep) led the Blue & Gray with his first career hat trick against the Friars and was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for his efforts.
Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) paces the Georgetown offense with 42 points (30G, 12A) while Peter Conley (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) is right on his trail with 35 points (22G, 13A). Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) adds 22 points (15G, 7A), Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) chips in 17 points (11G, 6A) and both McDonald and Devon Lewis (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) are good for 11 points (9G, 2A) and (8G, 3A), respectively, on the season.
Defensively, long stick midfielder Michael Mayer (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) leads Georgetown in both ground balls with 42 and caused turnovers with 15, while Charlie Ford (San Carlos, Calif./St. Ignatius) adds nine caused turnovers and 21 ground balls and Conor Barr (Wilton, Conn./Fairfield Prep/Fairfield) has eight caused turnovers. Jarrett Jones (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes) and Conley are both among the ground ball and caused turnover leaders as well.
In goal, Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) has hauled in 118 saves on the year, good for 10.7 a game, to go with a .486 save percentage.
Villanova (6-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) is coming off a 16-11 loss at then-No. 5 Denver but had won five-straight game before then. Eight different Wildcats have tallied double figure points this season, led by Christian Cuccinello with 46 (25G, 21A) and Jack Curran with 45 (31G, 14A). Jake Froccaro has 35 points (25G, 10A), Danny Seibel adds 25 points (19G, 6A) and Devin McNamara is good for 20 points (10G, 10A).
Nick Testa is 4-4 between the pipes for Villanova with 68 saves and a .428 save percentage while Dan Willis is 2-1 with 32 saves and a .405 save percentage. The Wildcats are giving up 12.73 goals per game this season, but are matching that with 12.73 goals on the offensive end.
Georgetown and Villanova have faced each other 31 times in program history, the third most for any foe of the Blue & Gray. The Wildcats hold a 19-12 advantage in the series, including a 16-4 victory over the Hoyas last season. Georgetown's last win over VU was a 17-8 victory in 2015.
Following Saturday's game, the Hoyas return to action as they close out nonconference play on the road at Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, April 18, at 7 p.m.
