WASHINGTON - Senior goalie Matt Winter (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after his 12 save performance helped the Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (6-6, 2-3 BIG EAST) defeat No. 14/15 Syracuse, 10-8 at the Carrier Dome on Saturday afternoon. Junior attack Brian Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his three goal, one assist performance.

Winter, a fifth-year senior, earns the first BIG EAST weekly honor of his career, making 12 saves, including two within the last minute of the game to halt the Orange's comeback attempt. Winter helped the Hoyas defeat Syracuse for the first time since 2006, recording the program's second win at the Carrier Dome. He is now 5-5 on the season with a .522 save percentage and 9.89 goals against average, seeing his first action since 2008.

"Matt probably played his best and most complete game of the season for us," Head Coach Dave Urick said. "He made a couple of big saves, especially down the stretch, and that proved to be the difference."

Casey earns his third BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll mention of the season, after scoring three fourth quarter goals against the Orange, along with one assist. Casey leads the Hoyas with 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists) and registered his third three-goal game of the season. Casey was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on February 28 and March 19.

Georgetown will conclude its season with Senior Night on the Hilltop when they host Rutgers on April 27 at 7 p.m. The Hoyas will honor its 16 seniors in a pre-game ceremony. The game will be broadcast in tape-delay on Verizon Fios1 with Dave McHugh providing the play-by-play and Andy Corno adding commentary.
