WASHINGTON - Graduate student face-off specialist Tyler Knarr(Eagleville, Pa./LaSalle College) was named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) 2014 Scholar All-American when the list was released this week.

Knarr graduated from the college last May with a double degree in government and Arabic and is currently pursuing his master's degree in democracy and governance. He has excelled in the classroom carrying a cumulative grade point average of above a 3.5. Knarr becomes the first Hoya to earn Scholar All-America honors since Chris Nixon in 2010.

Knarr, a two-time All-BIG EAST selection, became the 38th Georgetown University men's lacrosse student-athlete to earn a spot in the prestigious North-South All-Star Game, set to take place during NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Weekend. On the field, Knarr posted a record-setting season, breaking Georgetown's single-season face-off wins mark with 207. He finished as the BIG EAST leader in face-off win percentage at .659, the third best mark in the nation. Knarr also shattered his own single-season ground ball mark by 41, picking up 153 ground balls during his final season on the Hilltop. At the end of the regular season, Knarr led the BIG EAST and the nation with 10.93 ground balls per game.

In the community, Knarr has been active, most recently helping Hoya Dreams hold an Easter Egg Hunt for patients in the pediatric wing at Georgetown Hospital. Knarr has also been involved with Cycle for Survival, has assisted at the soup kitchen at Gonzaga and helped organize a bone marrow registration drive with Georgetown Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and cumulative GPA of 3.0. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
