July 27, 2012

WASHINGTON - Former Georgetown men's lacrosse All-American defender Kyle Sweeney (C'03) has been named to the Team USA men's national team roster, for the "Duel in Denver", which will pit the U.S. against Canada on September 8, 2012. The game will be a tune-up for the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships set to be hosted by US Lacrosse in Denver, Colo. from July 10-19, 2014.

Sweeney, a three-time USILA All-American and two-time ECAC Defensive Player of the Year during his time on the Hilltop, will be representing the United States for the third time, having previously been named to the national team in 2006 and 2010.

Sweeney is currently third in Georgetown history with 229 ground balls, having helped the team to four consecutive NCAA tournaments, advancing to the quarterfinals in three seasons. Since graduation, he has been a stand-out in the professional ranks, winning four Major League Lacrosse Championships during his nine-year career.

He joins Scott Urick, Steve Dusseau and Scott Doyle, as Georgetown men's lacrosse players to play for the U.S. Lacrosse Senior Men's National Team.
