WASHINGTON - The No. 11 Georgetown University men's soccer team suffered a tough double overtime defeat at the hands of the University of New Mexico Lobos (2-0-1) Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field. The Hoyas struggled to get going on offense and a late goal gave UNM the 1-0 decision. With the loss, Georgetown moves to 2-2 overall on the season.

"New Mexico is a good team and they made it difficult for us on our home field," said Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese. "With the Friday, Sunday games on hot, humid days, the game flattened out for both teams. Once you got into overtime, it looked like it would be a tie and the goal they got came out of nothing, just their shot at the right time."

Despite New Mexico possessing and getting a good look early on, it was Georgetown that looked like it would find the back of the net first.

In the 18th minute, Allen made a run up the field and took one touch past the keeper. As the crowd celebrated, the linesman called it back due to Allen being a step offsides.

This would be the story of the game for the Blue & Gray who were charged with eight offside calls in the game.

After a scoreless first half, both squads had some good looks in the second, but couldn't find the back of the net.

The Hoyas spent a significant amount of time on defense defending set pieces due to a number of fouls and corners awarded to the Lobos.

Tired legs made the first overtime quiet, but with minutes to go in the second both teams were searching for a way to get the win.

It was New Mexico that would find the answer in the 104th minute. James Rogers took a shot inside the box that was saved by Georgetown keeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves). The ball ricocheted off of Gomez and found the feet of Nicholas Rochowski who sent it back in for the golden goal.

GU was outshot, 15-7, but took no corners in the game as the Lobos were awarded nine. Gomez had three saves and took the loss, while Michael Lisch had two saves for the day.

"It's a tough way to lose a game, but when you play top-level teams, you're going to lose a few of those," said Wiese. "The trick is to make sure you win some as well."

Georgetown will host Duquesne University on Thursday at Shaw Field. It is the third of a four-game homestand for the Blue & Gray. Live stats as well as a new and improved broadcast featuring Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
