WASHINGTON - Two matches in Spain highlight the 2012 Georgetown University men's soccer spring schedule. The Blue & Gray will play two international friendlies before returning to the United States for five more matchups this spring.
The team will leave for Barcelona on Friday to spend 10 days in Spain over spring break. The first game of the trip will be on Tuesday, March 6 against either Gramanet or Terrassa of the Spanish Third Division. The Hoyas will follow that up with a friendly against Barcelona's Europa out of the Third Division on March 8.
Georgetown will train daily as well as taking in two professional games including a Champions League match featuring Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, March 7.
The student-athletes will also have opportunities to take in the culture of the city. Tours of the Picasso Museum, the Montserrat monastery, Gaudi's Parc Guell and the Church of the Sagrada Familia are on the itinerary as well as a day trip to the beach and a stadium tour of Camp Nou.
The team will train at multiple locations and work with staff coaches from Espanyol.at their Sant Adria facility.
The trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the student-athletes. The players, coaches, families, friends and alumni have been working for more than a year to raise money and make the trip happen.
