WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Men's Soccer Coach Brian Wiese announced the 2014 team captains on Thursday. Juniors Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) and Tyler Rudy (Olney, Md./Sherwood) as well as sophomore Keegan Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) were selected by the coaching staff and their teammates to lead the 2014 squad.
"This group of captains has a lot of collective experience and will balance each other well for the challenges that lie ahead next season," said Wiese.
Last year, Gomez was named the BIG EAST Co-Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST after an impressive season. He ranked first in the BIG EAST with a 0.44 goals against average, as well as fourth in the nation, and gave up only nine goals for the year. His .882 save percentage was also tops in the league. He set the program records for season shutouts with 12 as well as career shutouts posting 26.
In his career, he's been an all-region honoree as well as a two-time All-BIG EAST Honoree. Gomez was also a member of the 2012 College Cup All-Tournament Team.
Rudy has appeared in 65 career games with 48 starts to his credit. The midfielder has five goals and nine assists for 19 points in three years on the Hilltop. Rudy has had three game-winning goals including two last season.
Rosenberry has started all 46 games of his career in his two seasons at Georgetown. The defender has posted three assists each season for a total of six points in his career.
Georgetown is in the midst of its spring season. The squad will face UMBC this weekend, as well as Wake Forest and Delaware in the coming weeks.
