8/4/2004 WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Georgetown University men’s soccer team has been picked to finish seventh in the BIG EAST for the 2004 season. The Hoyas gathered 52 points among voting of the league’s coaches to secure seventh place, behind St. John’s (117), Connecticut (108), Notre Dame (104), Boston College (84), Rutgers (79), and Seton Hall (76). Providence (50), Syracuse (47), Villanova (40), West Virginia (19), and Pittsburgh (16), ranked 8th-12th, respectively. Junior Jeff Curtin (Oreland, Pa./Germantown Academy) was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. On attack, the Hoyas return their leading scorer, sophomore Ricky Schramm (East Chester, N.Y./Fordham Prep School). Schramm had 21 points for the Hoyas, including nine goals and three assists in 2003. Senior Kaiser Chowdry (Columbia, Md./McDonogh) will also be a threat as he had two goals and an assist in 2003. In the midfield, the Hoyas return senior Trevor Goodrich (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto). Goodrich led the squad in assists with seven. Sophomore Daniel Grasso (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central) will also be a factor as he had three goals and three assists for the Hoyas in 2003. Defense will be the greatest strength for the Hoyas. Senior captain Dan Gargan (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) and Curtin will anchor the defense. Both Gargan and Curtin were named to the NSCAA/Adidas All-South Atlantic Region third team. Gargan was also an All-BIG EAST third team selection and was second on the team in assists with six. Curtin was an All-BIG EAST second team selection in 2003 and contributed three goals and three assists for the Hoyas. Junior Dan Pydo (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) will also be a force on defense as he had four goals and four assists for the Hoyas in 2003. Georgetown posted an 8-9-2 overall record last season and finished 11th in the BIG EAST with a 3-7 record. The team begins its 2004 season on September 1 at home against Delaware.
