WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer senior forward Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) was named to the 2013 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List on Tuesday as the Hoyas continued their preseason. Neumann was a semifinalist a season ago and was recently named the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
Neumann was last year's team MVP and one of the four captains. He was named a Second Team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as well as receiving a nod to the College Soccer News' First Team and TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Year. Neumann was also an NSCAA First Team All-Northeast Region honoree. He was named All-BIG EAST First Team for the second-consecutive year.
Neumann was second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 13 assists for 33 points. Neumann's 13 assists ranked him first in the BIG EAST Conference and second in the nation in helpers. This past season, the forward was the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, TopDrawerSoccer.com Forward of the Week and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. He was also a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
Already this season, Neumann has been named one of the three team captains for the Blue & Gray and CollegeSoccerNews.com Preseason All-American. Last week, he was ranked the third best college player in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com as well as receiving unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST honors.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. It is presented annually in January during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. Neumann is one of 34 players on the watch list and one of just three from the BIG EAST. There are four 2012 semifinalists on the list, including Neumann, as well as the 2012 winner.
Last season, Georgetown made history with its first-ever trip to the College Cup and a national championship game appearance. GU finished the season with a record of 19-4-3 and a mark of 6-2-0 in the BIG EAST Conference. The squad was the third overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and the 19 wins were the most in program history. The Hoyas were the BIG EAST Blue Division Champions, the BIG EAST Championship runners-up and advanced to the national championship game in PKs in a thrilling game against the University of Maryland.
The Hoyas were ranked No. 3 in the NSCAA poll recently marking the highest preseason ranking in program history. Already this season, Georgetown was ranked No. 2 in CollegeSoccerNews.com's Preseason Poll and No. 3 by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Additionally, GU was ranked No. 1 in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll.
