No. 17 Hoyas Host Duquesne on Thursday

WASHINGTON - The No. 17 Georgetown University men's soccer squad will host the Duquesne University Dukes on Thursday afternoon at Shaw Field. The Hoyas are currently 2-2 on the season playing a tough slate including two ranked opponents.

Last weekend, the team went 1-1 overall. The Hoyas defeated the West Virginia University Mountaineers, 3-0, on Friday. Sophomore Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph) scored two goals and assisted on the third to earn BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. Freshman Bakie Goodman (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View School for the Gifted) had a goal and an assist, and classmate Alex Muyl (New York, N.Y./Bard) added a pair of helpers. The Blue & Gray fell to No. 9 New Mexico on Sunday in double overtime by a score of 1-0.

It was the first weekly award for the Blue & Gray this season and the fourth of Allen's career. As a freshman he was the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on three occasions.

Georgetown is 2-2 overall with victories over Stanford and West Virginia.

Allen leads the team in scoring with six points on two goals and two assists. Senior captain Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) is second with two goals, while Goodman is third with a goal and an assist for three points. Junior goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) has two shutouts on the season and has tallied 11 saves so far this year.

The Dukes are currently 4-0 on the season. The squad defeated Longwood, 3-0, in the season opener and Oakland by a score of 1-0 in overtime. Duquesne won its tournament defeating Howard, 1-0, and Incarnate Word with a 1-0 decision. The Dukes have yet to play a road contest.



Duquesne University sophomore goalkeeper Sam Frymier was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Tuesday. Frymier received the award after posting two shutouts over the weekend. Frymier now has four straight shutouts as the Dukes have not allowed a goal this season. Junior Josh Ellis is leading the team with four points on two goals this year.

This is the first meeting between the squads.

Thursday is the third contest in a four-game homestand for the Blue & Gray. Live stats as well as a new and improved broadcast featuring Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser will be available at Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
