Rosenberry Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Sept. 16, 2013
WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer sophomore defender Keegan Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) was named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after an outstanding weekend helping the Hoyas go 2-0 at Shaw Field. Additionally, junior goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Rosenberry helped the Hoyas post 1-0 shutouts against both Duquesne and James Madison. He assisted on the game winner against Duquesne marking his first point of the season. Rosenberry played every minute of both contests and helped the GU defense post two shutouts as well as limiting James Madison to only one shot on goal.
This is Rosenberry's first-career weekly award. It is the second weekly award the team has received this season and the first for defensive honors.
Gomez tallied two shutouts this week totaling four so far this season. He had seven total saves for the week including six against Duquesne. The award marks Gomez's first weekly award of the season and his fifth-career nod to the honor roll. Georgetown has had one other player earn a spot on the honor roll so far this season.
Georgetown will travel to the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday for the first in a pair of Ivy League matchups. The Hoyas will see familiar faces on the other side of the pitch with GU soccer alum Rudy Fuller at the helm of the Quaker squad and senior forward Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) facing his younger brother, Alec, for the first time in their careers.
Live stats as well as a webcast will be available through the Quakers' athletic website. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
