WASHINGTON - Freshman midfielder Alex Muyl (New York, N.Y./Bard) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after helping the No. 19 Georgetown University men's soccer squad to a 2-0 week. Muyl has played a significant role in helping the Hoyas to their 6-2 start on the season.
The freshman had four points on the week as the Blue & Gray defeated the University of Pennsylvania, 3-0, on Thursday and downed Princeton University Tigers, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon. The pair of victories made the Hoyas 2-0 in the BIG EAST/Ivy League Challenge.
Muyl posted a goal and an assist in the Penn win as well as tallying four shots including three on goal. The goal was the first of his career on the Hilltop. In his second-career start against Princeton, Muyl added an assist on the first goal of the contest. He had one shot as well.
Muyl has one goal on the year as well as a team-high four assists for six points to ranked third on the squad in scoring. He also ranks second in assists in the BIG EAST Conference.
The award is the first of Muyl's career. It also marks the third nod to the Honor Roll for a Hoya so far this season.
Georgetown will open BIG EAST Conference play on Saturday as the squad takes on the No. 5 Creighton University Bluejays at Shaw Field. Live stats and a webcast featuring Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
