Oct. 5, 2017

WASHINGTON - The No. 10 Georgetown University men's soccer squad (7-1-1, 2-1 BIG EAST) will host the No. 15 Butler University Bulldogs in a pivotal BIG EAST Conference matchup on Friday afternoon at Shaw Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday will also be Youth Soccer Day as any child eighth grade or younger wearing their soccer jersey will get into the game for free.

On Monday, freshman midfielder Jacob Montes (Lake Worth, Fla./Beaverton [Ore.]) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Montes had a foot on both Georgetown goals on Saturday as he marked two assists in GU’s 2-1 victory over Marquette. This is his first-career nod to the honor roll and Georgetown’s fourth on the year.

Georgetown Falls at No. 7/9 Butler
The Georgetown University men's soccer squad scored first, but couldn't stop late goals as the team fell to the No. 7/9 Butler University Bulldogs (8-1-1, 3-0-0 BIG EAST), 4-2, in Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday at the Butler Bowl. The loss drops the Blue & Gray to 1-2-0 in BIG EAST Conference play, and 3-7-0 overall.

Sophomore forward Achara (Enugu, Nigeria/Berkshire School [Mass.]) is leading the way for the Blue & Gray with five goals for 10 points on the season. He is followed by freshman Derek Dodson (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) with three goals and one assist for seven points on the year. Senior captain Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) and junior midfielder Ethan Lochner (New York, N.Y./Stuyvesant) each have two goals and one assist for five points. Montes has a squad-best four assists on the year.

In the goal, JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) has made 22 saves with a 0.75 GAA in 838:48 minutes played.

The Bulldogs are 7-2 overall and 3-0 in BIG EAST play. Butler is coming off a 1-0, double-overtime win over St. John's Saturday night in Indianapolis. Those two teams entered the contest as the only squads with 2-0 BIG EAST marks. The Bulldogs have kept fans on the edge of their seat through the early part of the season as all nine results have been of the one-goal variety. Butler is also 4-0 in overtime contests. Senior keeper Eric Dick's sprawling save in the second overtime robbed St. John's Wilhelm Nilsson of a goal and kept the score 0-0. Thirty seconds later, Butler was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box, which led to the 1-0 win. For his efforts, Dick was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week for the second-consecutive week and the third time this season.

The Hoyas are 3-1 all-time against the Bulldogs and 2-0 at home. Last year, Georgetown fell, 4-2, in Indianapolis. The last meeting in The District was a 2-0 Georgetown victory during the 2015 season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m., and Friday’s contest can be seen live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Dan Helfrich calling the action. Live stats will also be available at
