WASHINGTON - Three members of the No. 13 Georgetown University men’s soccer team earned BIG EAST Conference honors on Monday. Senior midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and junior JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Rounding out the awards was freshman midfielder Jacob Montes (Lake Worth, Fla./Beaverton [Ore.]), who was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Lema had a five-point week in two wins for the Hoyas last week. Lema’s two goals and an assist led the league in points and goals. Lema’s two goals came in the 3-0 win over Seton Hall on Saturday as he scored the first goal in the eighth minute and the third goal in the 56th. Lema also assisted the game-winning goal against then-No. 3 Maryland last Tuesday in non-league action. Lema is third on the Hoyas in scoring with 10 points (4G, 2A) for the year.
This is Lema’s first-career offensive player of the week award. He was named to the weekly honor roll in 2016.
Marcinkowski had a 13-save, two-shutout week for the Hoyas, keeping GU on the top of the league standings. His stats in goal led the conference in saves, saves per game (6.50), save percentage (1.000), goals against average (0.00) and shutouts. In Georgetown’s win over Seton Hall on Saturday, Marcinkowski stopped five Pirate shots on goal to maintain the shutout. On Tuesday against Maryland, Marcinkowski had a season-high eight saves to preserve a one-goal win for GU and end Maryland’s 30-match regular season home winning streak.
This is Marcinkowski’s ninth career weekly award and his fourth goalkeeper of the week honor, including three this season. He has also been named to the honor roll three times.
Montes had a three-point week for Georgetown, extending the Hoyas win streak to three matches. Montes scored the game-winning goal, his first goal of the season, at Maryland, netting the goal in the 88th minute. Montes added an assist in Georgetown’s win against Seton Hall, assisting fellow freshman Derek Dodson’s (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) goal in the 11th minute.
This is his first rookie of the week award after earning a spot on the weekly honor roll on Oct. 2.
