WASHINGTON - The No. 10 Georgetown University men’s soccer squad will travel to St. John’s University for a 7 p.m. BIG EAST Conference matchup on Saturday evening at Belson Stadium. Hoyas Hang on to Down Red Storm, 1-0
Georgetown University’s men's soccer squad (5-8-1, 2-3-1 BIG EAST) used an early goal to get the 1-0 victory over the St. John’s Red Storm (6-4-4, 2-2-2 BIG EAST) in a windy BIG EAST Conference matchup at Shaw Field on Saturday. The win leaves the Blue & Gray in contention for a BIG EAST Championship berth.

Lema had a five-point week in two wins for the Hoyas last week. Lema’s two goals and an assist led the league in points and goals. Lema’s two goals came in the 3-0 win over Seton Hall on Saturday as he scored the first goal in the eighth minute and the third goal in the 56th. Lema also assisted the game-winning goal against then-No. 3 Maryland last Tuesday in non-league action.

Marcinkowski had a 13-save, two-shutout week for the Hoyas, keeping GU on the top of the league standings. His stats in goal led the conference in saves, saves per game (6.50), save percentage (1.000), goals against average (0.00) and shutouts. In Georgetown’s win over Seton Hall on Saturday, Marcinkowski stopped five Pirate shots on goal to maintain the shutout. On Tuesday against Maryland, Marcinkowski had a season-high eight saves to preserve a one-goal win for GU and end Maryland’s 30-match regular season home winning streak. Earlier this week, Marcinkowski was also named the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Player of the Week.

Montes had a three-point week for Georgetown, extending the Hoyas win streak to three matches. Montes scored the game-winning goal, his first career goal, at Maryland, netting the goal in the 88th minute. Montes added an assist in Georgetown’s win against Seton Hall, assisting fellow freshman Derek Dodson’s (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) goal in the 11th minute.

Dodson is leading the way for the Blue & Gray with six goals and two assists for 14 points on the season. He is followed by sophomore forward Achara (Enugu, Nigeria/Berkshire School [Mass.]) with six goals and one assist for 13 points on the year. Senior midfielder Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass./The Rivers School) and Lema round out the top three with 10 points apiece on the year. In the goal, Marcinkowski has made 48 saves with a 0.58 GAA in 1398:48 minutes played. He also has eight shutouts on the year.

St. John's (7-6-2, 4-2-1 BIG EAST) enters the weekend following a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Villanova on Wednesday night at Belson Stadium. After falling behind in the third minute on a penalty kick goal, the Red Storm knotted the game in the 69th minute before finding the back of the net again in the second minute of double overtime. Both of the Johnnies' tallies came from Filippo Ricupati.

The Hoyas are 8-21-3 all-time against the Red Storm and 3-10-2 on the road against St. John’s. Last year, Georgetown won, 1-0, at Shaw Field as Brett Campbell scored the game winner. In 2015, a goal from Brandon Allen gave GU the 1-0 win at Belson Stadium.
