Nov. 27, 2012

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore goalkeeper Tomas Gomez (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) and freshman forward Brandon Allen both earned weekly honors on Monday. Gomez was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week, while both Gomez and Allen were named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week. The Hoyas tied the Syracuse Orange, 1-1, in the third round of the NCAA Tournament and advanced on penalty kicks, 4-2.

Allen scored in the 85th minute of play to knot the score with Syracuse at 1-1 to send the game into overtime. It was his 10th game winner of the season.

Gomez tallied one save during the game, and made his mark in penalty kicks saving the Orange's final attempt to advance the Blue & Gray to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

This is the first nod to the national team of the week on both sites for both Gomez and Allen.

Georgetown will host San Diego on Saturday at 1 p.m., at North Kehoe Field. Live stats and a free webcast featuring Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $5. Georgetown students with a GOCard will be admitted free of charge thanks to the generosity of an athletics donor.
