WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men’s soccer players JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) and Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass./The Rivers School) were both named Scholar All-South Region by the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced Wednesday. Marcinkowski earned a spot on the first team and McCabe was placed on the second team.
Marcinkowski signed a Homegrown Player Contract with the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer (MLS) and will forgo his senior season. The junior goalkeeper played every minute in the net for the Hoyas this season and was a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree as well as a Third Team All-Great Lakes Region selection. The two-year captain had a 0.72 GAA with 68 saves and eight shutouts on the season. He was the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on three occasions and also earned three nods to the honor roll the year.
Earlier this week, Marcinkowski won the team’s Ricardo Mendoza Award at the annual banquet. The Mendoza Award is given to the player who exhibits spirit, leadership and dedication. The goalkeeper will continue his Georgetown education despite leaving campus early.
McCabe was a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree this season, earlier this week he won the team’s Most Improved Award. He appeared in 19 games with 16 starts and was GU’s second-leading scorer with three goals and a BIG EAST best 10 assists for 16 points. All three of his goals were game winners including an overtime free kick to win the BIG EAST Championship. He was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 8.
The senior midfielder is an economics major who will graduate this month.
This is the first honor for both Hoyas.
