Pirates Top Men's Swimming in Dual Meet
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The continued success of Georgetown’s divers wasn’t enough to lift the Hoyas’ swimming and diving team over Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon, as the Pirates defeated Georgetown at Arthur E. Imperatote Natatorium on the campus of Seton Hall. The men’s score was 141-86 and the women’s score was 134-107, both in favor of Seton Hall.
Senior Kathryn Harrison (Morristown, N.J./The Hotchkiss School) trailed Bonilla closely in the 1 mtr diving (226.57) for second place, and claimed gold in the 3 mtr event (219.15).
Sophomore Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) and senior Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame) again led the Hoyas in the water, with Amaro winning the 500 yd freestyle (5:13.48) and Newman taking top honors in the 1000 yd freestyle (10:50.94). Amaro backed up that effort with a second-place finish in the 200 yd freestyle (1:58.22), and Newman added a fifth-place finish in the 500 yd freestyle (5:29.75).
Sophomore Corinne Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) also had a great day for the Hoyas in the pool, with a first-place finish in the 200 yd breaststroke (2:28.84), and a second-place finish in the 200 yd individual medley (2:15.80).
On the men’s side, freshman Terry Huang (S. Pasadena, Calif./Loyola of L.A.) swept both the 1 mtr (211.12) and 3 mtr (230.17) diving competitions, and extended his undefeated record in the 3 mtr event to three meets. Huang has earned the gold in the 1 mtr and 3 mtr diving contents a total of five times so far this season.
The men were also aided by the solid swimming of junior Kevin Walsh (Bethesda, Md./Saint Anselms), who earned a third-place finish in the 200 yd butterfly (2:02.74) and a second-place finish in the 200 yd backstroke (2:08.21).
The Hoyas will next travel to Fredericksburg, Va. for a meet against Mary Washington on Nov. 14. The start time for that meet is 5:00 p.m.
