Men's Swimming Falls to Mary Washington
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Georgetown men’s swimming and diving team dropped a dual meet to Mary Washington last Friday, 115-90, on the road at Goolrick Natatorium.
Junior Kevin Walsh (Bethesda, Md./Saint Anselms) continued his great season with victories in the 200 yd butterfly (1:59.40) and 200 yd backstroke (2:01.26), and also swam on the Hoyas’ runner-up 400 yd medley relay team (3:45.00).
Michael Bayer (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) earned a victory in the 50 yd freestyle (21.93), and led all Georgetown swimmers with a third-place finish in the 100 yd freestyle (50.37).
Senior Edmund Caulfield (Caldwell, N.J./St. Peters Prep), junior Daniel Heynen (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), sophomore Nick Libertiny (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) and freshman Kevin Rieffel (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College), all picked up second-place finishes on the day. Caulfield timed 1:50.40 in the 200 yd freestyle, Heynen timed 5:04.71 in the 500 yd freestyle, Rieffel timed 10:22.21 in the 1000 yd freestyle and Libertiny timed 2:03.55 in the 200 yd individual medley.
Bayer and Heynen also joined sophomore Don Ball (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and freshman Josh Bair (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) on the Hoyas’ winning 400 yd freestyle relay team. Georgetown edged Mary Washington with a time of 3:20.54 in that event.
The Hoyas are next scheduled to compete in the George Mason Patriot Invitational on Nov. 21-23 in Fairfax, Va.
