Feb. 4, 2007
Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown men's tennis team evened its overall record to 3-3 on the season with a 5-2 win over Navy at the Severn Valley Tennis and Fitness Club in Annapolis, Md. on Saturday. The Hoyas took four of six singles matches and two of three doubles contests for the win.
The doubles tandem of junior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and freshman David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) improved to 4-0 this season as they won their match at the third doubles spot. The duo of freshmen Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese JC) and Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) took a win at the second spot for the Hoyas to win the doubles point for a 1-0 lead.
Tywang took a quick two-set decision at the sixth singles position to give GU a 2-0 lead and was followed up by Tillem's decisive play at the fifth flight for a commanding 3-0 lead.
A win at the top spot for Navy brought them within two but sophomore Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) won a tough straight-setter at the fourth singles position to clinch the win for the Hoyas.
Junior co-captain Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) came back from a set down to win a three-set decision over Navy's Jason Hill at the second singles position.
The Hoyas return to the court on Friday, February 9 when they travel to the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center in Philadelphia, Pa. for a match against Saint Joseph's. The match is slated for 6 p.m.
