WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team put together a big 7-0 win over the University of the District of Columba Fire Birds on Wednesday afternoon at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. With the victory the Hoyas improve to 8-5 on the season.
GU won the doubles point, before picking up all six singles points with only one match going to three sets.
In doubles play, the No. 1 pair of seniors Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and Brian Ward (Darwin, Minn./Litchfield) managed a big 8-1 victory. At No. 3, senior Raf Notario (Bethesda, Md./The Heights School) and freshman John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) picked up the 8-3 win, while the No. 2 pair of sophomore Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./The Pendleton School) and freshman Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) battled to the 8-6 victory.
Singles play showed much of the same as the Hoyas handily took all six matches. Bruhn managed the 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1, while junior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) took the 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2. In the No. 3 spot, Dottino once again battled for the big 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 decision.
Freshman Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) pulled out the 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 before Ward won in straight sets at No. 6. Sophomore Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) rounded it out at No. 6 winning 6-0, 6-1.
Georgetown will travel to George Washington University of Friday, March 23 for a 2 p.m., non-conference matchup.
