WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team defeated Temple on Friday by a score of 4-3. With the win, GU improved to 7-10 on the season while Temple fell to 13-9.
The team got off to a hot start by picking up the doubles point. At No. 3 Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel High School) and Ian Witmer (North Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) won 6-4 and at No. 2 Jordan Portner (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) won 6-2.
In singles play, all six matches were completed in straight sets with the Hoyas winning at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6. Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) won at No. 5 by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Chen and Witmer would each pick up their second wins of the day as Chen won at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4 and Witmer won at No. 6 by a score of 6-4, 7-5.
The Hoyas return to action on Thursday, April 13 when they host Emory for a match at 12 p.m.
