WASHINGTON - Senior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) and graduate student Reese Milner (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads) closed their Hoya regular season careers with singles victories as the Hoyas defeated George Mason 6-1 at home. The men's tennis team closed the regular season with a 12-9 dual match record and an outstanding 10-1 mark at home.
The Hoyas fell behind early in the match when George Mason won the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Georgetown responded by sweeping all six singles matches.
Caris closed his home career at one singles and despite being down 4-0 in the third set he battled back to win, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. It was the second comeback victory for Caris in as many days, as he was down 3-0 in yesterday's match with UMBC before pulling out a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win.
Milner won 7-5, 7-5 at third singles to claim his eighth singles win of the year. Other straight set winners were Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) at two, 6-1, 6-4, Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) at four, 7-6 (5), 6-3, and Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) at five, 6-1, 6-4.
Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor), after clinching the Hoya win yesterday against UMBC, split his first two sets before settling down for a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
With the regular season over the Hoyas next play in the BIG EAST Championship held in South Bend, Ind. on the campus of Notre Dame. The Championship runs from April 18-21 with GU's opponent yet to be determined.
