Hoyas Drop Saturday Home Match to Norfolk State, 4-3

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown men’s tennis team (7-12) lost its Saturday afternoon home match at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex on campus to the Norfolk State Spartans (12-6) by the final of 4-3.

Georgetown senior co-captain Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North ) and junior John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) earned the only two singles victories in the 4-3 defeat on Saturday.

Distaso, playing from the No. 5 position, defeated Peter Pello of the Spartans in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The senior defeated Pello during the fall at the Georgetown Classic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.

Brosens improved to 4-4 at the No. 6 spot for Georgetown with a 7-5, 7-6(9) straight-set victory over Norfolk State’s Daniel Grauel.

The Georgetown pairs of juniors Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) and Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) in addition to freshmen Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) and Jordan Portner (Ellicott, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) helped GU grab the doubles point, 2-1.

The Blue & Gray will conclude its season when they host Villanova in a BIG EAST match on Wed., April 16 with play slated to begin at 1 p.m. ET at Georgetown’s McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
