WASHINGTON – The Georgetown men’s tennis squad (8-12, 1-1 BIG EAST) downed the Villanova Wildcats (4-16, 0-1 BIG EAST) by the score of 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon in the season finale. The match was played at Georgetown’s McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.

On senior day, senior co-captain Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) played his final home match from the No. 5 position as he defeated Villanova’s Tim Abbraciamento in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. The win came as Distaso’s 10th spring victory.

The Hoyas won five out of the six singles matches on the afternoon in D.C.

Sophomore Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton) also earned his 10th dual victory on the season against Thomas O’Brien of the Wildcats in the only three-set match, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. All of Khanin’s wins came from the No. 1 spot as he finished with a 10-10 mark.

Junior Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) defeated Villanova’s Ryan Peyton from the No. 2 position, 6-0, 6-1, for his sixth spring victory.

Fellow Georgetown junior Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) improved to 11-6 with a win over Kelly Donaldson, 6-1, 6-4 from the No. 3 position.

GU freshman Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) dropped Bradley Noyes in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Murphy improved to 11-7 with the win.

On the dual season, four Hoyas (Distaso, Khanin, Murphy, Tropiano) finished with at least 10 singles victories.

The Hoyas also picked up the doubles point to begin the match with a 2-1 win over the Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon.


 

 

Georgetown finishes the season with an 8-12 record, going 1-1 in conference play.

The Hoyas will now prep for the BIG EAST Tournament which will be played in New York, N.Y. from Thursday, April 24 to Saturday, April 26.
