WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team had a successful weekend at the Margaux Powers Invitational hosted by Brown University in Providence, R.I. The Hoyas faced squads from Brown, Boston College and the University of Pennsylvania, coming away with victories in both singles and doubles play.
Sophomore John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) and freshman Kevin Katz (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) had big weekends, sweeping singles play and winning two of three in doubles as a duo on the court.
Brosens defeated players from Penn and BC, while also winning over an opponent from Brown in a three-set battle 4-6, 7-6, 10-8. Katz joined him going 3-0 in singles play winning all three matches in two sets showing the Hoyas' bright future.
The pair of senior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) and junior Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) looked good going 3-0 with victories over all three teams including a 9-8 (5) win against Brown. Distaso went 2-1 in singles play, while Caris went 1-2.
Graduate student Reese Milner added a 2-1 record in singles play as the Blue & Gray battled for victories in the talented mix of competition.
The Hoyas will be back in action in two weeks as the squad competes at ITA Regionals in Charlottesville, Va., October 18-23.
