Annapolis, Md. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team finished its play at the Navy Fall Invite on Sunday winning eight matches against Navy, as graduate student Ned Samuelson, senior Adam Gross, junior David Tillem and freshman Andrew Bruhn each won in singles and doubles play. Tim Walsh won two matches, including wins against Radford and Furman tying him for first place in the No. 7 flight. "He won two great three set matches," Georgetown head coach Gordie Ernst said. "He was just competing. It was the best I've seen him compete since he's been here at Georgetown. He's starting to realize that continuing to compete even when things aren't going well, that's what it's all about." Samuelson defeated Joe Wiggins 6-1, 6-3 in the top spot and Tillem defeated Navy's Marcus Rebersak 6-1, 6-2 in the second spot for the Hoyas. Andrew Bruhn defeated Jason Hill in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 the fourth spot and Adam Gross won his match in the fifth spot 7-5, 6-3 over Ramsey Lemaich. "Andrew beat a veteran, to get that sort of play from the freshman right now is very encouraging moving towards the winter and spring," Ernst said. "These guys know now over the last month and a half what college tennis is all about." In doubles play, Adam Gross and Ned Samuelson won their match in the top spot and the freshmen duo of Bruhn and Mieszko Tomczyk won in the second spot, 8-5. Tillem and Kenneth Wong and Tim and Kevin Walsh also won their matches to round out a Hoyas doubles sweep.
"We're still experimenting, I don't know if these will be the pairs come spring, but these guys really found a way to win," Ernst said. "We were behind in three0 of the doubles matches, Navy plays good doubles, but we turned the tables and 30 minutes later we won all three." |
