WASHINGTON – The Georgetown men’s tennis team (2-1) plays tomorrow, Fri. Jan. 31 at the International Country Club in Fairfax, Va. against the George Mason Patriots (1-0). Play is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The Hoyas are coming off a home victory against Boston College, 4-3, and two-straight weeks of BIG EAST Men’s Tennis Player of the Week nominations. Freshman Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) won the award on Jan. 21 for his play against Campbell and VCU at the 4-1 Invitational in Richmond, Va., while fellow freshman Yannik Mahlangu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley) recently won the award on Jan. 28 for his two-victory effort in the win over Boston College.

Georgetown last played, and hosted, George Mason on April 11, 2013, when they defeated the Patriots, 6-1. In that victory, the Hoyas swept the singles play, 6-0, but lost the doubles point, 2-1. Current sophomore Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton), junior Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar), junior Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and senior co-captain Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) won four of the six singles matchups.

George Mason’s Jimmy Davis, Aaron Capitel and Taylor Sargent are the only returns from the singles play last year. Georgetown’s Khanin defeated Davis, 6-1; 6-4, while Distaso defeated Capitel by the same score, 6-1; 6-4. Tropiano won the long three-set match over Sargent, 7-5; 3-6; 6-3.

In Georgetown’s three matches this spring, Khanin and Murphy have played in all the matches with Murphy going 3-0 and Khanin going 1-2. Khanin has been playing every team’s best, as he has played at the number one position in all three of his spring singles matches.

In singles play this spring, Korber is 1-1, Mahlangu is 1-1, Distaso is 2-0 and senior co-captain Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./Pendleton) is 0-2.

The International Country Club in Fairfax, Va. has a total of eight courts, four of which are inside. More information and directions to the International Country Club can be found here.
