Juli Henner joined the ranks of the Georgetown coaching staff in October of 2000 as a volunteer track & field assistant coach and was promoted to a full-time assistant coach in June of 2001. She assists Director of Track & Field Ron Helmer in working primarily with the women's middle distance runners, but has also taken on additional responsibilities with the development of the men's squad.
A 1996 Olympian in the 1500-meters, Henner attended James Madison University where she was a member on the Dukes' women's track & field team from 1989 to 1992. Henner earned All-American accolades in the 1500-meters at the 1992 NCAA Championships. She graduated from JMU in 1992 with a degree in political science and began to concentrate on running.
Her hard work and dedication paid off when Henner won silver medals in the 1500 at the World University Games in 1993 and 1995. She then made the 1996 Olympic Team in the 1500 meters by placing second at the Olympic Trials. Unfortunately, she incurred an injury prior to the Olympics and finished 10th in her heat in 4:27.
Henner earned a master's degree in sports administration from James Madison in May of 1996, while continuing to work hard on the track. In 1997, she was named Head Coach of Women's Cross Country at JMU in January of 1997. Under her direction, the Dukes won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Cross Country Championship. The team also had the highest regional finish in school history (third place -- just one point away from earning runner-up honors). She topped off the 1997 season by earning CAA Coach of the Year.
Juli married Georgetown men's distance coach Pat Henner in 1994. She credits Pat as being instrumental in guiding her success on the track. The Henners live in Reston, Va.
