Georgetown Men's Cross Country Cruise to Penn State National Title

Washington, D.C. - The eighth-ranked Georgetown University men's cross country team placed three individuals among the top-10 overall, including individual winner junior Andrew Bumbalough (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy), and cruised to the team title at the Penn State National Open, held at the Blue/White Golf Course in University Park, Pa. Saturday afternoon.

The Hoyas finished with a combined 43 points, placing their top-five individuals in first, third, ninth, 12th and 18th, respectively, to out-distance host Penn State, second with 93 points, in the 28-team field. Villanova, ranked 26th nationally, finished in third place with 126 points, followed by Cortland State (127) and Guelph (184).

Bumbalough finished the 5.2-mile course in 25.10, the second-fastest time ever run on the course, edging out Mark Steeds of Georgia State, who finished in second place at 25:14.

Junior Levi Miller (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) finished in third place overall in 25:18 and senior Justin Scheid (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXII) was ninth in 25:28.

Other scorers for the Hoyas were sophomore Ayalew Taye (Portland, Maine/Cushing Academy), who finished in 12th place at 25:31, and senior Michael Banks (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional), who placed 18th in 25:38.

Sophomore James Grimes (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished in 30th place at 25:58 and senior Brandon Bonsey (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) was one place behind at 25:58.

Georgetown competes next at the BIG EAST Championships on Friday, Oct. 31 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City.
