Hoyas Open Indoor Track & Field Season at Navy and Bucknell

WASHINGTON-The Georgetown University track & field team opened the 2009-10 indoor season with the men traveling to Annapolis, Md., for the Navy Invitational and the women traveling to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Bucknell Opener. Junior Chris Kinney (Stockbridge, Ga./Stockbridge) ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles and the men's 4x400-meter relay team ran a facility record at the Wesley A. Brown Field House with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:14.27.
Kinney ran a 7.91 in the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles to automatically qualify for the finals. In the finals, he finished second with a time of 7.93 while sophomore Biyerem Okengwu (Piscataway Township, N.J./Piscataway Township) finished third overall with a time of 8.12, qualifying for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team made up of Austin Perron (Philadelphia, Pa./High School of Engineering and Science), Theon O'Connor (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College), Toby Ulm (Marlborough, United Kingdom/St. John's School and Community College) and Sean Suber (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) ran a 3:14.27 in the to finish first and set a new facility record in the event. The previous record (3:15.97) was set in the same meet in 2008 by Delaware State.
Dan Leyh (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge), Sandy Roberts (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton), James Farley (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) and Cabel Rosanelli finished first in the 4x400-meter relay with an IC4A-qualifying time of 7:45.76.
Ulm also ran the 400-meter dash and won the event running a 47.99 to take first place and qualify for both the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships. Perron finished fourth (49.07) also qualifying for both championships.
In the men's 200-meter dash, Spenser Carter (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) finished third with a BIG EAST and IC4A-qualifying time of 22.07 to take third place. Also qualifying for both championships was Suber who took fifth (22.09) while Kinney finished sixth with a time of 22.25, a BIG EAST qualifying time.
Carter also ran the 60-meter dash, running a 7.00 in the preliminary round to qualify for the finals and the BIG EAST Championships. Kadeem Hunter (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) ran a BE-qualifying time of 7.03, but fell just shy of qualifying for the finals.
The men's distance medley relay quartet of Brian Manning (Portland, Ore./Jesuit), Perron, Brian Hencke (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) and Rosanelli finished second with a time of 10:12.85, qualifying for the IC4A Championships. London Finley (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Mary's Academy) and Nene Kamate both qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships with Finley finishing fourth in the final round of the 60-meter hurdles (8.78) and Kamate finishing second (8.68).
In the 60-meter dash, Amanda Kimbers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) ran a 7.59 in the preliminary while Tenille Stoudenmire (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) ran the same time in the finals for both to qualify for the BE and ECAC Championships.
Finley, Green, Johnson and Kamate ran a 3:47.84 to take first place in the 4x400-meter relay while Kimbers, Sanders, Stoudenmire and Sierah Tyson (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) finished third (3:52.44), both are ECAC qualifying times.
The track & field program will take the remainder of 2009 off from competition and open 2010 with the George Mason Opener on Saturday, January 9 in Fairfax, Va.
