Lukezic Wins 1500-Meter Run at USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships
PALO ALTO, CA – Rising Georgetown University sophomore Chris Lukezic (Auburn, Wash./Auburn) won the 1500-meter run at the 2003 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held Thursday-Saturday, June 19-21, at Cobb Track & Angell Field on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. It was his second consecutive U.S. junior title in the event as he won the 1500 in 2002.
Lukezic fought off Sam Vasquez , running unattached, at the finish line in the finals. Lukezic broke the tape in 3:49.69, ahead of Vasquez’ mark of 3:50.85. Tyler Raymond of Manhattan College was third in 3:52.09. Lukezic also recorded the top time in the preliminaries (3:57.90). His personal best in the 1500-meters is 3:44.73.
Rising GU senior Jesse O’Connell (Westminster, Md./Westminster) ran to a sixth-place finish in Heat 3 of the 800-meters at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held in conjunction with the USA Junior outdoor meet. O’Connell clocked 1:50.11 in the preliminaries but did not advance. Lubert Lewis, representing Reebok Boston, turned in the best time in the prelims with a mark of 1:48.05.
