WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University cross country program put up a strong performance this afternoon at the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. In a surprising end to the cross country season, the 17th-ranked women took ninth place at the championship with a solid team effort at 305 points. The 8th-ranked men finished 10th with 319 points.

The men's cross country team had not placed in the top 10 since 2003 (7th) and the women's program hadn't been in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships since 2002 (4th) and this year's finish is a significant jump since last year's 28th-place showing.

Three Hoyas earned All-America honors as junior Andrew Bumbalough (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) and senior Levi Miller (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) were named All-Americans on the men's side and graduate student Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./Academy of Holy Names) was named an All-American for the women.

Maloy led the women as she placed 33rd overall with a time of 20:36.8 in the 6000m run. It was the strong team race that allowed the women to do so well - the five members of the Blue & Gray to score points all finished within one minute of one another. Freshman Emily Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) finished with a time of 20:54.8, followed by senior Natasha LaBeaud (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) with a time of 21:01.8, freshman Katie McCafferty (Convent Station, N.J./Oak Knoll) at 21:07.3 and Renee Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) running the race in 21:24.3 to round out the top-five finishers.

The next thee runners - graduate student Michael Banks (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional), senior Michael Krisch (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) and sophomore Ayalew Taye (Portland, Maine/Cushing Academy) - ran the race within 10 seconds of one another, finishing with times of 30:57.4, 31.02.3 and 31:04.2, respectively.
